Purpose of a Parish
A Parish Mission is a week set aside by a parish in order to call the members of the parish to live a life closer to Christ. The goal is foster conversion in all who attend
Agenda
Marcel will arrive in time to introduce the mission at all weekend Masses. The mission will generally start on Sunday evening and continue through Tuesday or Wednesday.
Sessions
The evening service lasts about 1-2 hours. It starts with prayer, followed by a presentation, and closes with a time of reflection. Mass or music can be provided by the parish, if they choose. Changes, additions or subtractions to the schedule should be made well in advance.
Parish Schedules
Parish activities should be postponed in order to gather the community as one. Babysitting should be provided for young children. Older children should attend the mission.
Advertising of the
The larger the group that attends, the more greater impact the mission can have on your parish. It is highly suggested that the parish have a marketing plan in order to reach inactive Catholics and others interested in growing closer to Christ, coming back to the Church, or exploring the Church. All ages are welcome.
Letters, phone calls, bulletin announcements, pulpit announcements, advertisements, local press releases, etc. are all recommended.
Other Suggested Options
Other suggested options include having opportunities for Reconciliation or a time of parish gathering for informal social time after the evening sessions. If a penance service is part of the mission, then the parish would need to gather enough priests to hear individual confessions of the expected number of participants. Follow-up activities or programs would be coordinated by the host parish.
Cost
The fee can be discussed by contacting Marcel. The last night of the mission, a collection will be taken up to off-set expenses and fees. Envelopes should be provided by the parish for those that cannot make a donation during that time.
